Our history begins in 1925, in Limoeiro City, Pernambuco - Brazil, where Maestro Antonio Arruda de Souza was born, known later by its artistic name “Cangaceiro”. He contributed with several record companies, radio stations and TV broadcasts such as TV Bandeirantes, TV Gazeta, Rede Tupi, TV Excelsior among others, in the production of “Almoço com as Estrelas” / “Bolinha” / “Flávio Cavalcanti” / “Imagens do Japão” / “Show em ‘Si’(monal)” / “Show do Enrico Simonetti” / “Buzina do Chacrinha” , just to mention some of his productions.
In the music festivals of TV Record, he was granted as the best arrager with the songs “Pra não dizer que não falei das flores” and “Disparada”, lirics by Geraldo Vandré, and “São Paulo”, lirics by Tom Zé.
Nowadays the legacy continues with his son Dario Arruda, saxophonist and band-leader of this great group of fantastic artists that together integrate the “Orquestra Urbana Arruda Brasil - Arruda Brasil Urban Orchestra”, by executing the originals Maestro Arruda’s arrangements.
Dario starts his musician carrier by playing clarinete at the church he used to go with his mother since he was a child, starting his studies with his father and with the conductor-arranger José Rodrigues da Silva, who joined the Zaccaro Orchestra as one of the arrangers.
When Dario mets Sabá from Jongo Trio, he was invited to be a professional musician joining the Clam (Zimbo Trio’s Music School). He also played with others artists such as Seginho Leite (humorist), Sabá, Luis Chaves, Bola sete, Paulo & Chico Caruso, among many others. He starts playing professionally live music for theatre peaces under the supervision of Beatriz Azevedo and other artists such as Jairo Matos, Rosi Campos, Joca Andreassi, Pixto Falcone, Claudia Shappira, Carla Gialucca, Letícia Coura, Cibele Forjaz among many others.
In 1994, aided by his friend Vanessa da Silva Ribeiro, who made available her house and all the infra-structure, he created the Orquestra Urbana Arruda Brasil, at that time named as Orquestra Acarajazz, then Banda Facção Brasil, and since 1998 by the name of Orquestra Urbana Arruda Brasil.
Since 2002 the orchestra is supported by Metalúrgica Atlas Inc. (Votorantin Group), thanks to the directory board members Mr. Olair Adalberto Martins, Mr. Paulo Roberto Pisauro, Mr. José Eduardo Felgueiras and Dr. Antonio Ermínio de Moraes, who have been contributing with brazilian culture, specially with Maestro Cangaceiro’s legacy. We also have been supported, since 2008, by Sodexo do Brasil Comercial Ltd. (Metalurgica Atlas Unity) by the contact of Mrs. Conceição.
We would like to thank all the people who also contributed with the development of our work, preserving the memory of our great Maestro Antonio Cangaceiro Arruda.
